Betsy McFarland, Caring Transitions

Starting Supportive Conversations with Aging Loved Ones

Aug. 06, 2026 12:00 p.m.

Caring Transitions of Boerne, Fredericksburg and Kerrville is a senior relocation service and estate liquidation company. They are starting their third year in business. They have a program that focuses on helping family members talk with their elders about their current quality of life and whether staying in their homes still makes sense. This is a very difficult conversation to have fraught with emotion and logistical puzzles, and it is a conversation that more and more of us are faced with as our parents age. This program offers lead-in topic suggestions, objection handling, and above all, reminders that this conversation is harder on their elders than it is on the family.

Boerne Champion HS Speech and Debate Team

Presentation and Request for Support

Sep. 17, 2026 12:00 p.m.

The Boerne Champion speech and debate team works year round as individuals and as groups, competing in a multitude of events across all levels. For the first half of the year, participants prepare and compete on a TFA(Texas Forensic Association) circuit. From this, students gain points for placing, getting them closer to the state competition! During the second portion of the year, we start UIL(University Interscholastic League) competitions. The amount of events offered lowers, as the competition gets harder. If participants place high enough they move forward to regional and even state level competitions!
Beyond competing and preparing for competition, the team works year round. Through summer or school days, the club's officers and coaches work together to create fundraisers, gain new members, plan team events, and more. Some events the team does are the De-Bake sale where members donate baked goods to be sold, the De-Banquet where at the end of each year the team meets at the designated location to celebrate accomplishments, be presented awards, and celebrate our graduating seniors. Each event helps showcase what the team is about, but it doesn’t stop there. Each year is better than the last and more is to come with each advancement in the team!
